Wednesday afternoon Inspired Painting Class
Learning from the methods of recognized artists
This course is suitable for people with some basic painting experience. It is ideal for those that enjoy experimenting with new techniques or for anyone that would like to learn more about different methods of painting. It can help to provide a sense of direction for people that have not yet found their own painting style.
The course will be divided into four separate projects; at the start of each topic we will take inspiration from a well-known artist's work; a brief introduction about the artist will be given and some relevant painting techniques will be demonstrated. Projects will be flexible, allowing you to introduce some of your own ideas and develop your own original work. Classes will include plenty of 'hands on' painting practise with individual help from the tutor.
Gain the confidence to create exciting watercolours, pastels, oils or acrylics
During the autumn course we will take inspiration from American artists, most notably Romare Bearden, a leading figure of the Harlem Renaissance, as well as less known present-day watercolourists and pastellists. Hopefully there will be something to appeal to all tastes as we study an array of different styles, from traditional to modern. We will explore the pivotal roles that brushwork and the arrangement of shapes play in creating successful paintings, and you will be encouraged to experiment with various techniques in order to broaden your creative approach.
Inspired Painting at the Woodborough Institute, Nottingham
Located on Roe Lane in the lovely village of Woodborough, the Institute is a former church that blends in well with nearby terraced cottages, but is deceptively spacious inside with a high ceiling and plenty of natural light.
If you travel by car, there is space to park outside on Roe Lane, or you are welcome to use the top end of the Four Bell's car park (free of charge) across the road.
If you use public transport, there is a regular service by Nottingham City Transport (buses 46 & 47) that run from the City Centre along Woodborough Road and stop nearby. |
