Wednesday morning Inspired Painting class
Learning from the methods of recognized artists
This course is suitable for people with some basic painting experience. It is ideal for those that enjoy experimenting with new techniques or for anyone that would like to learn more about different methods of painting. It can help to provide a sense of direction for people that have not yet found their own painting style.
The course will be divided into 4 separate projects; at the start of each topic we will take inspiration from a well-known artist's work; a brief introduction about the artist will be given and some relevant painting techniques will be demonstrated. Projects will be flexible, allowing you to introduce thoughts and ideas, and develop your own original work. Classes will include plenty of 'hands on' painting practise with individual help from the tutor.
Develop your creativity with watercolours, soft pastels, acrylics or oils
Discover how to create exciting compositions using bold brushstrokes and patterns, and learn how to sympathetically render light, colour and form. During the winter course we will primarily take inspiration from work by 20th century English artists; beginning with near-abstract landscape paintings of Ivon Hitchens (this ties in with the current exhibition at the local Djanogly Gallery). We will also study Dame Laura Knight's portraits, and explore the watercolour techniques of Eric Ravilious. As the course progresses, we will take ideas from less well-known contemporary paintings to inform pastel portrayals of animals.
