Wednesday morning Inspired Painting class
Learning from the methods of recognized artists
This course is suitable for people with some basic painting experience. It is ideal for those that enjoy experimenting with new techniques or for anyone that would like to learn more about different methods of painting. It can help to provide a sense of direction for people that have not yet found their own painting style.
The course will be divided into 4 separate projects; at the start of each topic we will take inspiration from a well-known artist's work; a brief introduction about the artist will be given and some relevant painting techniques will be demonstrated. Projects will be flexible, allowing you to introduce thoughts and ideas, and develop your own original work. Classes will include plenty of 'hands on' painting practise with individual help from the tutor.
Enrich your art with pattern and texture using acrylics, pastel & watercolour
Discover how to make the most of pattern, texture, and vibrant splashes of colour when creating your paintings. During the winter course we will primarily take inspiration from paintings by early 20th century English artists; examining Harold Gilman's use of brushwork and pattern in his portraits (this ties in with the current exhibition at the local Djanogly Gallery). We will also study John Piper's buildings and ruins, exploring how he used mixed media to create exciting tactile surfaces. As the course progresses, we will take ideas from less well-known contemporary paintings to inform themes of nature and rural landscapes.
